Brother Printer HL6180DW

Please keep in mind the guides I used use different printer models to demonstrate though they state they should work for this model as well. Here is a link from where this guide is based off: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5LtZCBdaug
For this printer, you need to:

  • 1: Turn the power of the printer off.
  • 2: Open the ink cartridge cover.

-You may wish to take out the cartridge and shake it a couple times before starting. -Leave cover open.

  • 3: While holding the START button down, turn the power to the printer back on

-(Watch for the lights to light up or flash, or a message to appear on the screen.)

  • 4: Press the START button two times.

-(Watch for the lights to light up or flash, or a message to appear on the screen.)

  • 5: Press the START button 5 times for standard cartridges or 6 times for high yield cartridges.

-(Watch for the lights to light up or flash, or a message to appear on the screen.)

Brother Printer MFC8950DWT and the TN750 or other Toner Cartridge

These are manual steps to reset the cartridge. Remove the toner cartridge from the printer before beginning. You do not need to do anything to the printer itself.

  • 1: On the side of the cartridge there is a black panel with 2 screws, Remove both screws. on the bottom of the panel is a small locking clip. Use a small screwdriver to release the lock.
  • 2: (Keep in mind that under the panel are gears and a spring.) Gently remove the side panel.
  • 3: Now we will be addressing the gear with the spring on it. This gear is used to measure how much ink the cartridge has left, so we will manually adjust it to make the printer read the gear/ink as full.
  • 4: Notice the gear dose not have teeth around its whole edge. Carefully lift the gear slightly and rotate it about 180 degrees clockwise then set it back into place.

-Make sure the gear is fully back in place however the teeth should not be interlocking. (So that where the teeth begin meet with the gear next to it.)

  • 5: Replace the side panel and screws.
  • -You may wish to shake cartridge before inserting into the printer.

TO RESET TONER This will make your printer believe it has a brand new toner. Once it says toner low, you can reset it and just print until it runs dry, instead of replacing the toner when you still have 500 prints left.

  • 1) Get to the home screen, if you are stuck at the “Toner Low” or “Replace Toner” message, just press the red X
  • 2) Press the FAX button on the touch screen. This is ONLY to light up the numbers so you can….
  • 3) LOCATE and only locate, don't press, the * (asterisk) button. You know where it is now, somewhere to the right of the Red X button
  • 4) Press the glowing home button to get home.
  • 5) Open the top as if you were going to change the toner, but don't remove any toner
  • 6) With the top open, press and hold the now UN-LIT * (asterisk) button for at least 5 seconds
  • 7) While KEEPING the lid open, the toner reset menu will show on the screen
  • 8) Reset your “low” or “empty” toner by pressing the color and type to reset, all with the lid open
  • 9) close the lid and wait about 40 seconds per toner that was reset (ie. 80 seconds if you reset 2, 120 seconds if you reset 3)

cstd = cyan Standard, cstr = cyan starter, and one other for high yield, etc… Just reset to whatever type you have installed.
